MINUTES OF THE MARTLEY AND DISTRICT CHANGE RINGERS GUILD
COMMITTEE MEETING HELD AT CLIFTON - ON - TEME
ON MAY 19TH 2009
Present: Martin Curren, - Chairman, Martin Stallard, Janet Stallard, Lyn Wheeler,
Linda Taylor, Margaret Bayliss, Jenny beacham.
Apologies: Chris Martin
The minutes were taken by Jenny Beacham in the absence of Chris Martin.
Amendments to minutes of previous committee meeting held on February 17th 2009:
Under ‘Treasurer’s Report’ The ringers at Broadwas are not outstanding in their
subscription payments as they all paid as members of other towers
Matters Arising from previous minutes:
Under ‘Ringing Stewards Report’ Jenny has asked Bob Browne if there was an event,
such as a village fete, when we might assist Broadwas tower in holding a tower open day.
Nothing has come of this as yet. Enquiries will be re-made.
Treasurer’s Report:
Shrawley ringers are still outstanding in their subscription payments to the Guild.
Perhaps Chris Martin has this in hand.
Ringing Steward’s Report:
The numbers have been quite good at monthly practices. Martley, the most recent,
was well supported with 18 ringers. A suggestion was made that we could invite another
tower to the Cathedral Ringing Centre as we had done last year with Clifton.
Martin Curren will liase with the Martley ringers to see if they would like to do this
and he will then liase with Mark Regan.
Record secretary’s Report:
There has been one quarter peal since the last meeting. This was at Ombersley.
Trip to Ireland: Martin Curren reported that this has been postponed for this year.
There were, unfortunately, not enough people to make the trip viable.
There were 7 definitely committed and 9 possibly.
Alan Gosling and Dave Crop are going to Ireland themselves this year and their visits to
towers will be useful information for a later date. Perhaps a trip in this country,
at least at first, might be more practical and more popular.
The postponement of the Ireland trip would be discussed at the next AGM.
Martley’s visit to Suffolk had been very successful with around 20 people going,
which was thought to be about the right number.
Guild activities 2009:
June 13th Ringing and Walk from and to Astley . Janet Stallard has all arrangements in place.
July 4th Guild outing to Oxford. Plan circulated. Still a question mark over travelling arrangements.
Linda Taylor to look into train times.
July 23rd Evening Ringing: Martin Stallard has this arranged for Castlemorton and Hanley Swan
August 22nd Minor practice: at St Swithuns, Worcester. Lyn Wheeler to ask Simon Wilmshurst.
Nov 7th AGM: now to be held at Clifton
Tower Reports:
Clifton: There are now only 4 regular ringers at Clifton. Sue and Joe, from Martley,
go there sometimes to support. Committee members will try to support when possible.
Grimley: Practices are now taking place monthly, usually the last Thursday in the month.
AOB: Nil
Date of next Committee Meeting: Tuesday Sept 1st at Clifton.
